LASSP Professional Machine Shop

Location: Clark Basement E-21

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 am – 12 pm & 1 pm – 3:30 pm

This full-service machining and fabricating facility serves all departments at Cornell and is staffed by experienced professional machinists. Shop personnel advise on design as well as executing the needed machining, brazing, welding, and other peripheral operations for fabricating experimental apparatus.

LASSP Student Machine Shop

Location: Clark Basement D-26

Hours: Monday through Friday, 10 am – 6 pm

This well-equipped machine shop is maintained for the use of graduate students and other researchers, in LASSP as well as in the wider Cornell research community, in their research efforts.

Current fully-approved users of the shop may continue to access the Student Machine Shop using after-hours protocol:

  • to access the Student Machine Shop through the main entry door by using their ID card
  • to bring a buddy who will remain for the entire time; and
  • to adhere to all posted cleaning protocols. 

For users who have not yet completed the full training program, contact Robert Page (rtp43@cornell.edu or 255-3524) to discuss booking supervised time in the Student Machine Shop.

Additional Operating Procedures:

  • Please bring your own protective/safety eyewear.
  • Please maintain adequate social distancing.
  • Masks are required if more than 4 people are occupying the shared space.

LASSP Low Temperature Cryogenic Liquids (Helium and Nitrogen) Distribution Facility

Location: Clark Basement H-12

This facility supplies liquid helium and liquid nitrogen to Cornell science and engineering groups. To join the listserv for Low Temp Facility Users, send a plain-text email message to lassp-lowtemp-L@cornell.edu, with the Subject of your message join and leaving the body of the message blank.

LASSP Stockroom and Purchasing Support

Location: Physical Sciences Building G20

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm; access outside of these hours is available by permission

This facility is an open scientific stockroom – anyone on campus is welcome to use it. The Stockroom has a large inventory of electronic, vacuum and related items available, to facilitate the ongoing research across campus. This area also is responsible for the processing of purchase orders initiated in LASSP.

Research-Related Travel Support

LASSP staff support research-related travel (e.g., attending conferences or training programs, beam time), and have created tools and guides to help explain common processes and terms. read more
